Mastering Effective Communication in Dentistry for Dentists and Dental Team Members

Effective communication is a cornerstone of success in the dental profession. This course is designed to equip dentists and their team members with the essential communication skills and strategies needed to provide exceptional patient care, improve teamwork, and enhance the overall patient experience.

Course Objectives:
1. Develop Patient-Centered Communication:
• Understand the principles of patient-centered care and its impact on patient satisfaction.
• Learn how to establish rapport, build trust, and effectively communicate with patients of diverse backgrounds and needs.
• Master active listening techniques to better understand and address patient concerns and expectations.
2. Manage Challenging Conversations:
• Gain the skills to handle difficult conversations with patients, such as treatment plan discussions, informed consent, and managing patient expectations.
• Learn how to navigate sensitive topics, address patient anxiety, and maintain professionalism and empathy during challenging situations.
3. Improve Case Presentation and Treatment Acceptance:
• Learn techniques for presenting treatment plans in an understandable and compelling manner.
• Discover strategies to increase patient treatment plan acceptance rates through clear, confident, and patient-focused communication.

Dr. Amrita Patel

Dr Amrita Patel is a multi-practice owner and general dentist in private practice in Westchester County, New York, and an adjunct faculty member in the Dental Hygiene program at the University of South Dakota. She graduated from the NYU College of Dentistry in 2011 and completed a General Practice Residency immediately afterwards. From 2018-2020, she chaired the New Dentist Committee of the New York State Dental Association and served as the new dentist member on the ADA Council on Dental Bene􀏐it Programs in 2021. She was the recipient of the New York State Dental Association Bernard P. Tillis Award for Excellence in Dental Writing, the American Dental Association 10 Under 10 Award in 2021, which recognizes ten new dentists from around the country for excellence in their work and inspiring others, and a Denobi Award in 2022. She is the Social Media Manager for the International College of Dentists- Global and serves on the board of the NYU College of Dentistry Alumni Association. Dr Patel is the leadership columnist for the Academy of General Dentistry’s Impact magazine, writes a recurring column for Dental Economics, and is the New Dentist Columnist for the Michigan Dental Journal. Dr. Patel is a national lecturer and focuses on student, resident, and new dentist engagement. Her areas of expertise include wellness, time management and con􀏐lict resolution for dentists and dental team members, and demystifying dental bene􀏐it plans for early career dentists.
