How to diagnose and treat complex cases of TMD/Orofacial Pain:

Dental Students are now required to be competent in Screening for and treating simple cases of TMD/Orofacial Pain. Even though many dentists now have these skills, it is important for interested dentists to learn about difficult cases and how they are managed. This course will cover many of the possible complications along with case presentations that show treatments for these patients.

Participants should gain:

* A greater depth of knowledge about TMD and Orofacial pain after taking this course.
* The ability to recognize bone and soft tissue pathology when reviewing CBCT and MRI scans.
* The ability to recognize and refer patients with non-dental tooth pain to the appropriate specialists.
* Familiarity with diagnostic and therapeutic injections, including BOTOX.

Dr Cohen Has frequently lectured nationally and internationally on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Orofacial Pain and has limited his practice to the treatment of TMD and Orofacial Pain since 1990. He is Past President and Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain as well as Past President of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. He also is a Board Certified Specialist in Orofacial Pain and was recently appointed by the ADA as the first Commissioner for the new Specialty of Orofacial Pain on the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). Dr. Cohen is currently Assistant Professor and Director of the Orofacial Pain (OFP) Clinic at AT Still University Dental School (ASDOH) and Adjunct Faculty at UCLA Orofacial Pain Specialty Residency. He is also very active in the American Headache Society where he is a Fellow and Past Section Chair for OFP. He is also honored to be a fellow in the American College and International College of Dentists (FACD,FICD, )and the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. Dr. Cohen is a section editor for the Journal Cranio and frequent reviewer for the ADA Journal and Triple O Journal.
